Magic birthday parties can be really great fun for everyone. I have done hundreds of them, and would like to offer a few suggestions to help you get the best show for your money.

My magic show is a live theater performance created especially for your child. You can help to make the most of this experience by keeping distractions to a minimum.

To this end, indoors is better than outdoors. For indoor parties, I need only a 4x6 space to setup. The space in front of the TV or fireplace is ideal. Kids usually sit on the floor. The fewer obstacles between them and the show, the better. You may want to slide any coffee table off to one side. We encourage the audience the make noise, stand up, wave their arms and come up to be volunteers. Therefore, it is a good idea to put the glass centerpiece in safe place. Please do not give the kids food or drink during the show. Their enthusiasm - and the carpet - will suffer.

Noise can be a distracting, too. Music, TV and background conversation should take place in another room.

Now, if you really want to have the show outdoors, a garage or deck can serve as appropriate spots. If it has to be on the lawn, however, a shady spot is best. There should also be blankets or chairs for the kids to sit on, and toys should be put away.

The magic show is a good, organized way to start the party. It usually takes 15 to 20 minutes for everyone to get there, and I like to arrive 10 minutes after the party is scheduled to start. It takes me 20 minutes to set up a show, and I can play with the kids until everyone arrives. The show should begin 30 minutes after the start of the party. Each show is 25-30 minutes long.

After the show, I can make balloon hats for everyone. I can create hats for up to 20 kids in a half hour. The hats make for wonderful pictures. You also save money by not having to buy party hats or balloons. After the kids get a balloon hat, it is free time until you start serving refreshments, and opening gifts. I will gladly move to do the balloons to another area, if needed.
